Discrete adapter (ยง17 "discrete"): arbitrary values โ strings, enums, asset
handles, objects โ carried by reference and switched with step semantics.
Consequences of "by reference", stated rather than hidden:
clone returns the same reference. There is no generic deep copy, and a
shallow one would be a lie for most payloads; a discrete keyframe value is
therefore shared, not owned, by whatever it is assigned to.
copy and lerp ignore their target/out and return source/a/b, so
mutatesInPlace is false and a binding assigns the property rather
than writing through the previous value.
