The payload is the weights array as plain numbers — the whole of the
component's state. Reading is total for shape (a missing or malformed
payload restores a single zero weight — a usable component — rather than
failing the scene) and refusing for range: a well-formed array carrying a
non-finite weight is refused by the constructor's §85 check, which is
allowed to stand, exactly as the motion rigs' serializers document.
